I am trying to upgrade my Me pc to XP and am following the
instructions provided by HP (my first mistake?) on the cd "HP Windows
Me to Windows XPSolution CD" (all purchased from HP)

The cd said that I need to upgrade my BIOS so I followed the
instructions exactly and upgraded my BIOS from version 2.12 (31/5/01)
to 3.05 (09/11/01) (the 3.05 driver came from the cd) (my second
mistake)

The BIOS upgrade said it was successful, but now when I start my
machine it hangs on the the HP logo (before it tries to read any
drives)

I have tried pressing F1 (to enter setup), a message "entering setup"
appears but the computer still hangs.

This means that I can not do anything with the machine. None of the
drives respond.

Any ideas what I can do now? I have seen reference to "jumpering
BIOS" but If this is possible on this machine where can I get a
working BIOS file from - can't find on the HP sites.

(I don't know how to backup BIOS so I don't have a copy of 2.12
-mistake 3)

thanks

Simon

Hi,

Find the jumper to clear the CMOS, the new BIOS is probably storing
information in a different format and being confused by the old data.

After you clear CMOS and boot, you'll have to setup the BIOS again.
