Hey all, some of you may know me from my previous thread, I solved an issue with bad hardware, and got a new video card, and today was able to run Bios...with stability until trying to enter the submenus in bios. Then the computer is unresponsive. Temp readings were good when I was able to see them, and the mobo was reading all the devices I hooked up. It just becomes inactive after tinkering within the submenus. I have not changed anything inside bios. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks ahead of time!

I am also finding out now that my dvdrw drive is bunk also, makes some great clicking noises.
Aside: Newegg...Ive got 2/5 working parts from them so far. Im in the RMA process.

When at the post screen, I am getting the error CMOS Checksum Bad. THough this problem has not occured everytime. Can anyone agree with me that a bad dvdrw drive could be responsible for freezing bios?

The dvd drive is IDE, and my harddrive is sataII.

I would try and flash the BIOS. Check the manufacture's website for a new version. if there is not a new version , i might try to reflash the current BIOS.

Currently I am trying to install windows vista beta 2 on a new system. When entering the mobo screen from a cold start and a clear cmos, I either get the error CMOS Checksum Bad or CPU fan error. After resuming from these errors, I try to install Vista so I can update and/or flash the bios. I cant seem to get to install the OS because it freezes and a Windows Boot manager shows up saying to get the installation disk and restart the computer.
I've tried to download the bios from asus and burn it onto a cd as I do not have a floppy drive for this machine. Not really sure what I can do from here, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Your best bets from here are to either slave a floppy drive into the machine temporarily or get a usb key (cheap and small work fine) download a program on nlite and make the usb key a bootable devive then copy BIOS and flash tool onto it and try and flash it that way.
