BIOS Issue after power shut down

System does not see my drives and unable to get to XP screen. Is th hard drive fried? Can I retrieve my data?

Did the power go down due to an outage ? If so it is possible, thought not very likely that the drive is dead.

In BIOS does it show anything connected to the IDE or SATA channel ? if it does not then try checking the lead connecting to the motherboard, SATA ones in particular can come loose very easily.

If the connectors are ok then I would try swapping the power connector to the drive to see if the Molex or SATA power conector is faulty.
