I wanted to upgrade my CPU. In order to do so i needed to change my motherboard. My new CPU is the AMD FX 8350. Whenever i start up my computer it says that i have a CPU and makes me choose to set it up or load default values which ignores all the settings i put in previously. Every time i boot up i have to enter the values and restart my computer. I tried to update the bios but it seems as if i t cant Update past what it is which is v.206. I went o the asus website and they dont seem to have a BIOS version past 206 for this one

Solution
FX-8350 is supported with BIOS version 205 or higher.

I see two versions later than 206:
https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/M5A78L-M-PLUS-USB3/specifications/
Version 0502
2016/12/23846.31 KBytes
M5A78L-M PLUS/USB3 BIOS 0502
Improve CPU stability

Version 0404
2016/07/21846.27 KBytes
M5A78L-M PLUS/USB3 BIOS 0404
Improve system stability

I recommend using ASUS EZ Flash 2. Instructions are in the motherboard manual. Don't forget to unzip the BIOS download.

You can load default values and then any custom settings. Save & Exit BIOS from there. If you haven't reinstalled the OS, that can be your problem too.

Respectable
The bios may support the CPU but the 4+1 phase vrms run hot as hell ( there isn't even a heatsink on them). Saying that if your bios isn't remembering settings it's either the bios battery or you have the CLR CMOS jumper in the wrong place.
