BIOS NOT RECOGNISING NEW HDD

I can't figure whether or not I have already posted this question somewhere else. Apologies if I have. I have installed a new Western Digital 320GB HDD into my Dell Optiplex GX280, but the BIOS gives me "error not autosensing secondary hard disc drive". I have checked out the SATA and power cables and they are fine. Is there comething I ought to do with the BIOS to get it to recognise the new drive? At the moment, it does not give the drive ID nor the capacity, so it thinks it is not there.

Make sure AHCI is enabled in the BIOS.
