ok, here is an odd one. and I apologize for the long description

A couple of hours ago I was browsing around when things got weird. while I was chatting with someone on facebook when I would reply pressing enter would not send the message, only add a space. I clicked on the tab in my bookmarks bar hoping to refresh the page but it opened a new window instead. same thing when I clicked on a taskbar button, it would open a new window in addition to the one that was already up. the weird part was that when I clicked on the taskbar button it glowed on the place I clicked. it did this a bunch of times. so I restarted my computer. but I was locked out and it would not accept my logon password

figuring that I got a virus, I decided to do a clean install of windows. I disconnected my additional hard drives and only had the SSD connected that I use for a system drive. I installed windows as a fresh install, deleted all partitions and formatted. installed windows, created a new logon password and logged on. I then began the process of installing drivers. after installing the chipset driver from the asus disk I restarted.

and then.

the damn thing would not take my password. I tried every possible way I could have typed it, but there is no way I could have typed the wrong one in twice during the install.

I don't want to keep reinstalling windows so I thought I would seek out some pros. since I formatted the system drive during install my only thought is maybe there is something infecting the bios?

this is a computer that I build a few years ago and I have never had this issue

I'm embarrassed to say, I figured it out and I am a dumb ass. I feel really dumb now. especially since I have to spend all day tomorrow redoing my computer.

the shift key was stuck and I didn't see it
