Bios recognizes all drives, but wont boot

Received computer in current condition. Asus N53J laptop. Bios recognizes hdd, odd, and usb, but none of them will boot. Computer says reboot and select proper boot device. Hdd, nor odd spins, tried new hdd and odd, same result. Tried usb boot, nothing. As mentioned, bios recognizes everything. I'm thinking mobo is trash?

Well, is any of the storage devices bootable? Is your flash drive bootable, so your laptop can boot from it?
What does the boot order in BIOS say?

There's a chance that the HDD in the laptop is just blank. You can't really expect it to boot.

Hello.

You might need to disable your "Secure Boot" settings in the BIOS. If this is activated, only recognized disks and USB devices will boot.

Is there an operating system on the hard drive?

The previous owner may have just formated the drive (to erase all of his files on it) and left it in that state with no OS on it.

I've tried all the above guys, there's not a safe boot option in bios, it's almost as if the drives aren't getting power

If it recognizes the drive in BIOS then it is getting power.

Are you using bootable media? A hard drive without an OS, or a DVD or USB drive that is not specifically made to be bootable wont boot.

All media is bootable, tried and tested on other computer.

Have you tried resetting BIOS on laptop?

Then, have you disabled UEFI boot in the BIOS? Disable it if it is still activated. It is the top choice in the boot section of the BIOS.
