BIOS Recognizes HDD but not in Bootable Drives List

Has anyone seen this problem?

I did the initial "smoke test" on my new build this morning, running the system through POST. Pertinent parts are an Asus Z97-A motherboard, Intel i5 quad-core CPU, 16GB of RAM, Samsung 250 GB SSD, Seagate 1 TB HDD, and an Asus OD. No OS or drivers have been installed yet.

POST went OK but the motherboard's red Boot_Device LED stayed on, so I assume the POST didn't complete, according to the manual.

In the BIOS, I can see all three drives listed in the component status section of the screen, but in the Boot Priority list, the OD and SSD are listed but the HDD is missing.

Why would this occur? I haven't had an opportunity to pull the SATA and power cables and do the sequential install yet, but because the BIOS can at least see all the drives, I suspect there is no problem with them.

You haven't installed any OS, so none of your disks is bootable, so the motherboard can't find a boot device. It sounds fine to me at this point.
The Boot Priority section of my BIOS doesn't show all the drives on my PC, but I can use the BIOS to change which one it shows.

It sounds to me like you don't have a problem.

Thanks for the quick response. I don't intend to boot off the HDD when everything is up and running--just use if for storing user docs. I was simply concerned there might be some other problem either with the system or the HDD itself.

Can I assume that POST completed satisfactorily, since no other POST LEDs remained lighted?

You were correct. After installing the OS on the SSD, there was no need to assign the boot priority. The system automatically starts the OS. Thanks for the encouragement to press on with the build.
