Bios Recognizes New SATA drive but not XP

It doesnt show up in device manager or anything else inside of windows xp I added a 320 sata drive that I got for free from a tech shop I work with and I installed the drive, cables, ect. Checked bios and bios recognized it.

It hasnt been partitioned I dont think but still I have an existing drive running XP and I want to clone the current 80gb IDE drive to the 320GB SATA for obvious reasons.

So what do I have to do to get XP to recognize the new drive and ghost it over?

Also ghost wont let me work either it says that I need network credentials even though its in the same desktop pc. Its a dimension 8400.

You have to partition and format it before Windows will recognize it. You do this with Disk Management, not with Device Manager:

Click "Start" --> right-click "Computer" and select "Manage".

Click "Disk Management" in the left pane.

Scroll down to the BOTTOM of the MIDDLE pane.

You should see your new disk there with a label such as "Disk 1" or "Disk 2", etc. Right-click on the label in order to create a new volume (which partitions the drive) and then again to format it.

Once it's formatted Windows will assign the next available drive letter to it and then it will appear in Windows Explorer.
