I found out that my bios was not updated enough for the cpu I wanted to upgrade to. When I upgraded my bios, I found that I could only upgrade to 0602 and the cpu (I5 4690) requires version 0909. How would I upgrade to a version compatible with this cpu and is it possible?

Solution

I did that, and the most recent version was 0602

I see version 2203, are you sure you're looking in the right place - https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/H81MA/HelpDesk_Download/

I bought my computer pre-built, so I didn't think to look there. I looked just for my computer. I will try updating it now, I'll keep you posted on the result!

I tried updating it to 2203, the asus easy update just says "The model of the BIOS image doesn't match the BIOS ROM currently present" when I try to select it

Make sure the flashdrive is FAT32 and that the rom file is on the root of the drive. Not in any folders. It will have to be extracted from the zip file once downloaded.

It says security validation failed. I think this means it is not compatible.

It says M11AD, but when I went into my computer before the model number on the motherboard was H81M-A_DP

This is the one you'll want. https://www.asus.com/support/Download/14/11/11/6/pZOJTEfAciYZCCUB/8/
Let me know how it goes.

I already updated my bios to 0602, but the 4690 requires 0902 or above.

It looks like ASUS is using revised version of the bios for the H81M-A motherboard. You have a prebuilt desktop ASUS M11AD. I do not see a CPU support list on their website. Judging by the release date of the bios if may not supports the i5-4690. Don't quote me on it though, you may have to contact support and ask for a CPU compatibility list.

[UPDATE]
I suggest giving this thread a read.
