Bios resets whenever I shutdown or use sleep mode

About a day ago when I started my comp up from sleep mode it went into a complete restart and the bios settings were reset. Every since then when I shut it down or try to use sleep mode I have to reset the bios setting. I've tried installing a new cmos battery (even though the old one tested good still for a charge 3.1v) as well as reflasing the bios (I had the latest ver already isntalled) I also tried reseatting the cpu and memory but for some reason I'm unable to seat the dual mem sticks in the first 2 spots now, they only work in the last two dim slots. I've tested them both with windows memtest individually and together with no errors to show and the computer works fine once started up.

Asus z97 pro gamer
G.SKILL TridentX Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2400 (PC3 19200)
Intel Core i7-4790K cpu

I haven't made any hardware changes for almost a year now since I installed the current video card. It just up and started doing it on 12/26/16

It actually brings up a warning during the bootup that the cpu fan isn't running but thats because Im using a water cooled cpu and it doesnt register the fan speed so when it restarts it tells me I need to configure the bios setting and the when I get into the bios its completely set to default settings. Mem isn't set as well as some other settings I use. It also has hanged a couple times during the bootup with the led for the cpu staying on constantly but I haven't tried it since I figured out that putting the dim sticks in the 2nd 2 spots works to at least let me get to the bios. It never used to go to a restart at all when I used sleep mode but now it does.. Ill try memtest to see what it says.

You should:

1. Look for latest BIOS and make sure that is what is installed. Asus Tech Support will not speak to you unless you have latest BIOS / drivers installed.

2. Unless you dropped something into the RAM slots, they should go in... make sure you lining up properly. After checking that tabs are open, key or cuts in the PCB is aligned properly with the tab in the socket and no cookie crumbs or other flotsam / jetsam in sockets install a sper video

3. If you have latest BIOS, see if your board supports Asus BIOS Flashback and if so reload BIOS.

4. The RAM is not working in dual channel mode. Check MoBo manual for proper slot locations... A2 / B2 is most common (2nd and 4th from CPU slot) on Intel builds

When I said wouldn't seat I ment it wouldn't boot in those slots. The Mem fit and locked in just fine. I do have the latest BIOS installed according to Asus web sight. Running memtest ATM. Update with results. Thanks for responses so far.

Certainly is a nast bug ... one that, in a sharp reversal, Asus now refuses to acknowledge or fix. Many, many threads on Asus support forums across numerous RoG Z87 / Z97 boards... a fix was promised via a BIOS Update specifically to address the specific issue involved.

The post still appears in Asus support forum and it was posted by an Asus employee, but BIOS release was never released and Asus support now refuses to acknowledge there was ever a problem. And yet, BIOS announcement is still there and the BIOS flashback temporary work around post is still on Asus support forums.

Options are keep RMAing and rebuilding over and over again (not exactly a "halftime gig" on a water cooled armored board with rigid acrylic tubing and 4 water blocks or do the BIOS flashback thing when the BIOS clock freezes again.

I don't do beta BIOSs and not gonna start until Asus or [insert every other component vendor here] starts paying me to test their products :)... that brings back some nostalgia for the early 90s when we did get paid for beta testing ... at least with free copies of released software.

Test mem showed no errors but this "Note: Ram may be vulnerable to high frequency row hammer bit flips" and looks like flashback is NOT a feture my motherboard has bvut like I said Ive alrdy flashed bios to the lastest one from asus websight

Just talked with asus support gonna rma the board. Thanks for the help anyways. Was thinking was the board but didn't want to send it off with out trying everything I could.. thanks all
