So I have a very strange issue that I would like to share and get some feed back for. I recently upgraded my desktop specs at the end. I got an ASUS Crosshair vii hero motherboard that i recently updated the bios too. When I updated the bios... for some reason the bios was a green tint (pic below). Which at first I was very worried about. After the bios flash I booted to windows yet windows is perfectly fine. Even stranger. So I ran some stability tests and everything was perfect. So I powered off the unit and went into the bios and it was still tinted green. So I unplugged my machine and swapped video cards (I used an ancient HD5450 I had in the closet cause it was the only other GPU i had on hand). But after swapping video cards the BIOS is still green. So I think Im safe to say its most likely not my new video card. So after being frustrated I left my desktop unplugged over night and went to bed.
The next day I powered on my computer.... And the bios is back to normal! No more strange green tint. Well after using it all day I wanted to change some things in the bios (mainly fan control stuff). Well... when i rebooted and went into the bios I was greeted with the green tinted screen. Well after getting annoyed I decided to roll back the bios. So I went through downgrading the bios to the oldest version. There was no changes what so ever. So I went online and googled it. I found very scarce information but something I saw on the LTT forums. Someone said they had a green bios and one comment in particular caught my eye:
"Don't know if this is still an issue but I had this issue with my new R9 380. I fixed it by enabling CSM support on my motherboard. I guess the card doesn't support UEFI I never looked into it more after that because the card works just fine."
So for the hell of it I went back into my green tinted bios and disabled CSM. (Which ya is kinda the opposite of what that comment says but since mine was already enabled might as well disable it to see what happens) Guess what! It worked! No more weird green tint. So I attempted to boot into my windows and... nope. I need to have CSM enabled and Legacy Boot enabled for my OS to work. Now to give some prior information about my win10. My OS was orignally a Windows 7 and was installed on maybe 1 or 2 PC upgrades ago and when the Windows 10 free upgrade came along I took it.
Now my personal opinion on this is that its most likely not the GPU. I think its most likely a firmware glitch possibly between Windows 10 running CSM & Legacy. I cant say for sure yet but I have been in an email conversation with ASUS product support to see if there is a solution or possibly if this is a bug to bring it to their attention to see if they can patch it. Reason I'm saying its more of a firmware issue is because of the fact windows 10 is running with zero issues (as in no weird green tint on it).
Has anyone encountered this themselves?
