Hello. I'm planning on doing a fresh install of windows 7 on a new SSD, and have read about the forums and from google searches that I must change the Bios settings 'drive mode' to ACHI. Is this true for all SSD types? I ask because the one I've ordered says Sata III in it's title/name.

It's this drive: SanDisk 240GB SSD PLUS Sata III 2.5-inch Internal SSD up to 520 MB/s Read

http://www.amazon.co.uk/computers/dp/B00S9Q9VS4/ref=sr_1_7?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1443649540&sr=1-7&keywords=ssd

P.s I'm doing this because windows 10 upgrade process half killed my previously smoothly running machine, and after a play around with windows 10 (when it worked), I've decided it's back to windows 7 for me, so figured it would be a good opportunity to upgrade from HDD to SSD at the same time!

Any help appreciated.

Yes, ACHI is the BIOS requirement to take full advantage of all things included with your new SSD. Sata III is the drives interface and will run your SSD at top speed through your motherboard. A clean install is also the best time to go immediately to Win 10 AFTER you download the latest Win 8.1/10 drivers for your motherboard BEFORE you begin the Upgrade process. This will help minimize issues during and after your Upgrade. I've been using 10 for a number of weeks now and am getting used to it. I actually like it. Seems faster and very stable too! imho!

Netyoda, thanks for the reply. ACHI (what ever it is) is what I'll be sure to set it to before I start the install. My system came with Intel Rapid Storage Technology, Do you know if I need to keep this with the fresh install (with SSD this time)?

O/T:

As for windows 10, I did figure there was a large amount of 'I don't like change' in my opinion, but I really ran in to a bump with every task. Unable to alt tab from games, slow boot up, apps from the store half downloading, slow response... I don't know how many of them are due to using the upgrade feature rather than fresh windows 10. It's a decent PC, should be smooth. Oh, and candy crush saga preinstalled!? 😛 I'll grab them iso from microsoft while they still offer it, and get the key from the win10 upgrade with a system info tool, then it's an option in the future. I hear windows 7 will be supported for another 5 years though, so maybe I'll just see you then 😉
