Bios Update an Issue?

Hi everybody, I am helping one of my friends do his first build. We ran a compatibility check on the parts he picked out, and they all seemed to work together. However, one of the notes said that the mobo may need a BIOS update before using our desired CPU. Is this a major issue, or something that can be taken care of easily?

Not a major issue. The BIOS update (flashing the BIOS) must be done from the motherboard manufacturer's website, and there will be detailed instructions about doing it. On my recent build I had to update the BIOS 4 times due to updates released to fix motherboard issues.

Each manufacturer handles this somewhat differently, but there are detailed instructions.

I use Haswell Refresh (I5-4460) on an H81 board that came with the oldest BIOS version just fine, just from my personal experience. That is an MSI board.
