Hello all.

I just need some confirmation. I already have a Ryzen 5 2600x on a b450f gaming asus board.

I just bought a Ryzen 7 3700x to replace my 2600x.

So since I already have a 2600x all I need to do is update my bios and afterwards just install the 3700x and all should be good2go correct?

the update i found for the bios is 2801 released 9/24/19?

thx

Yes it is a .cap file.
Specifically:
ROG-STRIX-B450-F-GAMING-ASUS-2801.CAP
That is the BIOS file you need.

The First thing you should do is make sure you have the latest chipset drivers installed:
First Install these:
https://dlcdnets.asus.com/pub/ASUS/...M4_VGA_19H1_TP_W10_64_VER191016_20190705R.zip
Then Install these:
https://drivers.amd.com/drivers/amd_software_1.09.27.1033.zip

Be sure to Right click on the .zip files and click on Properties then check the Unblock box and then click Apply.

I personally Updated from Version 1201 to Version 2202 to Version 2301 to Version 2704 then finally to Version 2801.
It took me about 20 to 30 minutes to do that, but IMO it's worth taking the time to update this way.
Especially since BIOS 2301 implements firmware changes.

First I went into the BIOS and on the EXIT tab I clicked on Load Optimized Defaults (then OK on the Pop up) and then Save and Reset.
Then I updated the BIOS from 1201 to 2202.

Then went into the BIOS and on the EXIT tab I clicked on Load Optimized Defaults (then OK on the Pop up) and then Save and Reset.
Then I updated the BIOS from 2202 to 2301.

Then went into the BIOS and on the EXIT tab I clicked on Load Optimized Defaults (then OK on the Pop up) and then Save and Reset.
Then I updated the BIOS from 2301 to 2704.

Then went into the BIOS and on the EXIT tab I clicked on Load Optimized Defaults (then OK on the Pop up) and then Save and Reset.
Then I updated the BIOS from 2704 to 2801.

Then went into the BIOS and on the EXIT tab I clicked on Load Optimized Defaults (then OK on the Pop up) and then Save and Reset.

Then I Cleared the CMOS like this:
  • Unplug the PC (PSU).
  • Then press the Power Button for at least 30 seconds.
(the on board ROG LEDs will sometimes flash after 20-30 seconds to show that all power has been drained from the board).
  • Use a flat headed screwdriver to short the CLR CMOS (CLRTC) Jumper (Touch both jumper pins with the screwdriver) for at least 15 seconds.
  • Plug the PC back in.
  • Press the Power Button to turn the PC on.
  • Repeatedly tap the DEL key
  • A screen should come up telling you to press the F1 key, do that.
  • Set the Optimized Default settings and Press OK (this is on the EXIT tab)
  • Save and exit the BIOS.

Then I removed my CPU Cooler and 2600 and installed my 3700x and my CPU Cooler and rebooted.

It isn't absolutely necessary to update as many times as I did BUT it will ensure that when you get to version 2801 it will work like it should.

Also I flashed using the EZFlash 3 tool in the BIOS (with the BIOS files on an FAT32 formatted USB stick like this:
