Bios update for MD78 - Help

I purchased a Gateway MD78 for my wife a year or so ago with Vista installed when Vista was the OS of the day. I recently upgraded the laptop to Window 7. With the change in OS, I saw on Gateway’s website that a bios was available for Windows 7. When I downloaded the bios file, I found no instruction for installing it. Does anyone have instructions or give me guidance on how to install the file?

BIOS updates are not specific to what OS you have.

If the computer is operating correctly, there should be no need for a BIOS updates. I don't think you will benefit performance wise, or reliability wise if the update were installed.
