I want to upgrade from a a6 6400 to an athlon x4 860k, my motherboard is an a55bm-A which supports fm2/fm2+ socket. My current bios verison is 0302 but it needs to be atleast 1601 for this cpu so i would need to update BIOS, but i heard BIOS can kill ur motherboard?

Solution
EZ flash method: http://www.asus.com/ca-en/support/FAQ/1008279/

Can see MANUAL as well.

(Note that there are "related" videos linked however not all motherboards support the same methods. Stick with the motherboard MANUAL for advice. )
Theoretically you can "brick" the BIOS, however that's fairly RARE.

You also have no choice if you want to upgrade your CPU.

I've probably flashed over 100 systems and never had a single failure. The most dangerous thing that can happen is that there is a POWER failure right in the middle of overwriting the firmware (perhaps 30 seconds or so).

Splendid
it is also always human error that bricks your bios rom and not the install process.

If you do it from windows then a windows error could stop the process in the middle and brick somehting but if you use flash drive and do it from the bios you will be fine. just follow the instructions from the manufacturers website
