BIOS Update Problems

I have the AMD FX 8350 and an M5A97 R2.0 motherboard. My current BIOS version is 1602 and I have read that updating the BIOS will cause some fixes with the cpu fan. I want to update it to the newest version which is 2603, but I am wondering if my motherboard and cpu can update to that version.
