So I want to upgrade my CPU which is currently a pentium g4400 (not great), to a kaby-lake processor possible the i3 7100, can you firstly tell me is it worth doing this upgrade and how and is it worth updating my BIOS as well

Solution
one small hiccup with your choices clearly on the web page of the motherboard it states : https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/Z170A-PC-MATE.html#hero-overview
Supports 6th Gen Intel® Core™ / Pentium® / Celeron® processors for LGA 1151 socket

but looking into the service BIOS section if you click on the web site compatibility tab on the left it shows it can handle 7th gen CPU , so seems their web site is vaguely updated. warning, you need to update the bios BEFORE you swap out the CPU.

A.C Release Date 2016-10-18 File Size 6.31 MB
Description -  Supported next generation new Intel CPU.

if your going to go for the I3-7100, I would save cash and get same performance and go for the G4560, its literally almost a s powerful and cost...
Upgrade wouldn't be huge but may be worthwhile depending on your work load. And yes you would need to upgrade your bios for it to work. As for the how...you would need to update your bios first. Without motherboard model I can't give specifics. Google your motherboard model and bios upgrade/ go to your manufacturers website support page. Then once that is done you would need to detach your heat sink, remove your CPU. Clean all thermal paste off your heat sink with alcohol. Insert your new CPU, reapply thermal paste and reattach your heatsink.

My motherboard is the Z170A PC Mate, and could you suggest a good upgrade from the pentium g4400 and an nvidia gtx 750ti SC
