Hello,

Im on my workstation computer for audio. Im running into some performance issues while working and asked around some tech folks. The answer i got where based on CPU throttling and Windows 10 tuning/update procedures, one of which includes my BIOS update.

My system is self-build, old but still running.
I never really updated my bios before and have questions:

  • Is it safe for me to update it anytime? meaning, i should be able to do it worry free without loosing my OS or data.

  • In Speccy (Piriform), my mobo Bios version is 1003. The newest Bios is 2209 (https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/P6T_Deluxe/HelpDesk_Download/). Can i update it straight to 2209? or do i have to do these updates in order?

  • I see few ways to update a Bios, Afudos, EZ Flash and some ASUS update utility (which i cant find). Out of these, which is the the most suggested way?

I cant really think of anything else atm but im worried most about possible corruption and having a workstation i cant use.

Any help is appreciated.

Best,

Never update the BIOS unless your having problems with the motherboard its self. Their always a chance you can brick the board.
They have not been a BIOS update for that board since the year 2010.
Got to love Windows 10.

If you CPU is actually throttling then you need to clean out your cooler/ reapply fresh thermal paste/ or upgrade the cooling.

Bios updates the bios chip on the board, this will not alter the OS drive or data. go update to the latest straight up, Use asus update utility, found in the drivers under utilities https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P6T_Deluxe/HelpDesk_Download/.
You will see a tab in asus drivers for manuals, this manual explains bios update on page 3.1 https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P6T_Deluxe/HelpDesk_Manual/

If this program does not work with win 10 or 64 bit etc, you will need to do it the EZ Flash method with a usb formatted with fat32 and bios loaded on it.
Backup old bios before this and make sure the power cannot go off whilst updating bios
