Ok so I am trying to understand something that may sound so simple. This is what I understand in a nutshell. My question will be at the end
The BIOS, which is actually 100's of small programs burned into a ROM chip that allows
the CPU to communicate with other devices (keyboard, mouse, onboard devices) This chip is set at the factory and can not be changed.
The BIOS alone could never handle all the various components that could potentially be connected to the motherboard so a second RAM chip is needed. This is call the CMOS. Since this is RAM it needs constant power to hold it's configuration (CMOS battery)
Ok with that said, when the BIOS is flashed, what is actually upgraded? If the BIOS is ROM memory (read only) and CMOS is RAM, What gets flashed?
