So I decided the old DZ68BC MB with its I5 2500 would still be useful to store data.
I update some fans and the CPU cooler, unplugged 4 of the 5 1TB Seagate HD's.
Set the one HD on Disk 0 according to the BIOS (was Disk 2 the first check) and did a clean install of Win 7 Pro.
Go through the usual driver updates and installs, no problem.
For grins and giggles I pull up Disk Management and it tells me the single HD with the system files is Disk 0 same as the BIOS.
Shut down, plug in the 4 other HD's which the BIOS id's in the order they are plugged into the SATA sockets.
Startup, go to Disk Management and what was Disk 0 is now Disk 4?????
Can anybody tell me why? Would be nice to now the logic behind changing it too . . . ;>)

Thank You Grobe, it makes sense now if you look at it from that angle.
No common sense but we all know what has happened to that.
The returns of "Win 10" mixed in the search for "Win 7" explains that to . . . ;>)
