BIOS wont recognize a new PNY SSD, however, Windows 8.1 CAN see it.

Title says it all...I bought a new PNY SSD. Planned on putting the OS on it, and using the HDD as data storage. It's a HP Envy desktop bought just a few months ago, so it should read everything fine. I have tried multiple sata ports, and sata cables...any ideas as to why it cannot read it? Any help is appreciated!

check to see if the pc bios set to achi mode or raid or ide if it set wrong the drive may not show up. check to see if your mb has 3 party sata ports you may have plugged the drive into a sata port that non bootable but can be used as a data port. check the firmware of the ssd make sure it updated could be a firmware bug.

It is set up as ACHI mode. I'll have to check all sata ports, and firmware version. Thanks!

For the BIOS to see the drive, you have to change the hard drive to AHCI - and it should detect it regardless of the SATA port.

I would unplug the hard drive during the OS installation, then plug it in and make sure that the SSD is the primary boot device.
