Hey community, my concern over bioshock my be unwarranted but it seems as though since that 10 minute demo of bioshock infinite's premiere the graphics have been less satisfying. I was instantly drawn in when I saw that first demo-it was like watching an interactive cgi pixar movie. I was blown away by the incredible atmosphere. It was unlike anything I had ever seen before. After the first few minutes, after seeing booker dewitt fighting against the enemies in the bar, then pulling a coop attack with elizabeth, seeing the insane physics at work, I said to myself "this is next gen." The way elizabeth plasma-heated a bunch of iron pans together into a ball was just ridiculous gameplay-far more complex than anything in other games. The graphics seemed to have been toned down.Tree leaves and plants seem to hardly be swaying in the wind, every single leaf on vines that have grown alongside of buildings were blowing accordingly in the first demo but not now. I'm not completely sure that things were toned down but we'll see at launch. What do you folks think?

more than likely. they may be features that only work on ultra high end but for joe normal who has 1 midrange gfx card you will probably only see 40% of what the engine can do. the same thing is happening in bf3. the game can look even more photo realistic if run on 2 gtx 690's with the config tweeked to enable more features of the engine. but guys running single gtx 680's would struggle to get 10fps if they turned them features on for a general release.
my guess is they renered each frame of the first demo separately so you end up with a much higher quality image. this would then be used in the cut scenes. remember they used to do that with a lot of older games instead of having real time rendering that they tend to use today. so...

forza got a lot of stick in forza 3 for this very thing. they showed a race from replay mode which enabled a lot of gfx features that were not used in actual racing. they labeled it as actual gameplay footage and then got hauled over the coals by the community.
