Question Bitcoin mining to be disabled on RTX 3080 Ti and 3090 Ti?

From what I saw it was expected they would have the same limiter as the 3060. This means only Ethereum mining is impacted and for the hardcore miners there are ways around it.
That is good news. We graphic designers are impacted badly by this mining. A card that I could buy $1500 is roughly 4000 USD in region now. Unbelievable!😡

You cant really mine bitcoin with gpus to begin with. As for the mining, nvidia did jacksh*t lol. They only crippled the ethereum mining for publicity. "For Gamers!". The so called will be best selling series rtx 3060 is going for at least 800 usd here. So much for their mining lock. Even if there are no miners, scalpers will still get their hands on it. At least in my country, gpu price is crazy not just because of miners but the actual demands. So now a 3080 goes for 2k usd while a 3090 goes for a price of a motorbike 😉.

Here in Latvia GPU prices went <Mod Edit> from November and so far no signs of something like a slight GPU price decrease. RTX 3060 in online stores cost like 900€ (yeah, VAT and profit). RTX 3070 cost like 10 years old used car and RTX 3090 - like good used car. The fun thing is that local retailers even don't have GPU cards in place, but order them from larger retailers in Western Europe when someone place an order. All this situation is crazy. There will be no cards for gamers while mining will be a thing. Also pricing situation make quite permanent market distortion where only someone with fat wallet can get decent GPU card. I'm curious what game developers are thinking about it.

People don't use GPUs to mine bitcoin, GPU-mining BTCs hasn't been viable in several years since ASIC miners came along. What they do is mine alt-coins and exchange those for BTC.

As for the mining throttling on 30Ti, Nvidia itself said its algorithm is targeted specifically at ETH memory access patterns, so miners can still use 30Ti cards with most other alt-coin that do not have ETH-like pseudo-random memory access across a 5GB chunk of VRAM or whatever ETH-specific it is that Nvidia is looking at.

The simplest way to bypass Nvidia's driver-based ETH nerf is to run older drivers that don't have the ETH nerf in them. Stupidly simple and will work for all GPUs supported by the last driver version before the nerf. Future models won't have the benefit of pre-existing pre-nerf drivers and they may also come with in-firmware nerf on top.

They will hack any nerf in a week or so.

EDIT it will be interesting to see how EIP-1559 changes things.

but mining help the scalpers to sustained their activity longer. one gamer will be satisfied with one card. but one mining farm will not going to stop buying cards even if they already have ten thousands of GPU. as more and more gamer get their cards demand rate will return to normal and shops eventually will have plenty of stocks.
