Hey,

I'm looking to replace a couple of parts to turn my current mid-tower into a portable mini itx rig.
I'm hoping to have a complete orange/black colour coordinated build using the Bitfenix Prodigy Orange..
I'm not sure though whether or not the front panel would supply enough airflow (with only small vents around the side) and if it does is it worth putting a 200mm fan there?

I'm hoping it works, I really like the idea of an orange portable gaming rig with a sleek front.
I figure I can call it O.R.A.N.G.E ..... I'm so original

Anyway, any info on the prodigy front panel would be great thanks!

Far as I know, only the black version of the Prodigy has the mesh front panel, all the others are solid.
The vents are probably going to provide a lot of resistance to airflow, so I think you will want to get yourself a beefy fan with plenty of Static Pressure to compensate. A 180/200mm Silverstone Air Penetrator is what I would go for here.

Thanks.

I could get a mesh black/Orange front panel supplied by Bitfenix?

I was hoping the sleek front panel wouldn't constrict air flow too much but if I have to get a mesh cover instead I guess I will.

Any other solutions are welcome!

I'd say it depends on what you have inside really. There's no massive harm in the solid fronted versions, especially if you aren't using super-high end stuff. The bigger potential issue is if you use the windowed side panel version, as that can really restrict a graphics cards air supply.

If you want the absolute best airflow, then getting a mesh fronted version is always going to be the way to go, but if airflow was the sole deciding factor in case selection, we'd all be using open-air frames or something.

I'm likely to use a ASRock Z87E (ITX obviously), my i5 4670 (which I already own), my gigabyte windforce gtx770 (which I already own) and I'm going to cool my cpu with a Corsair H80i. I wouldn't think ram would have too much of a factor with heat? But I'm getting two 8gb sticks of Corsair Vengeance at 1600mhz.

I'm also going to buy some spectre pros and dot them around every spot possible (although probably only have room at the top/back) and while I have the i5 atm, its quite possible I'll be upgrading to the i7 when the next gen comes around. What do you think about the solid front with components like this?

Also, I'll almost certainly use the standard case side (not the windowed version) so hopefully my gpu wont starve for air...

EDIT: Also, I forgot to mention, I'll be running 2 Samsung 840 Evos as well as 2 hard drives, my current WD Black and possibly a 3tb Seagate Barracuda.

I would have thought you'll be fine. The graphics card will basically serve itself from the mesh section, so that shouldn't be a problem. With the top drive cages removed you have very little to block airflow through the case.
I wouldn't bother sticking fans everywhere, it'll make near to zero difference. Get a decent front fan (200/230mm is advisable I think) and a decent exhaust fan for the back (if you keep the H80i then this basically does it for you). Putting fans in the roof isn't going to do an awful lot for temperatures.
If you don't already have an H80i I'd suggest you consider the alternatives. The big selling point of a Prodigy is that it can fit massive tower air coolers, or in an alternate setup, a 240mm radiator, and I'd say one of those solutions is likely to be best for most people.

I was originally going to the h100i but I like the idea of eventually sticking a bluray drive in the front.. I'm going for an awesome media setup, although saying that, I may just find a ps3 or something lying around the place and use that for bluray. I'll have to think about this, but thanks :D
