Bitlocker encrypted usb drive not detected

Hi

My employers have recently enforced encryption of any external drives using bitlocker. I put my usb drive into my laptop and was prompted to encrypt it. I did this and was careful not to remove the drive while it was doing it. It completed the encryption in a few hours and appeared to finish with no issues.

Once it finished, I tried to save a document to it and it wouldn't allow me to. I then tried to open a file from it. I could see the drive but it appeared to be empty. I then tried to eject it but windows said it couldn't eject it. I then removed the drive and plugged it in again only this time windows doesn't recognise it at all. It's as if it's not even plugged in.

I do have a backup of the drive but it's not as recent as I'd like so I really need to get the data off it if possible. I've given it to the IT support guys at work but they're not convinced they can retrieve the data.

If the drive isn't even detectable by windows, is there any way at all I can salvage my data? I'm quite annoyed given the encryption wasn't my choice and I've been forced to do it by my employers.

Unfortunately, Forum rules prohibit assisting with bypassing security measures.

E.g., password circumvention, unencrypting data, etc..

Your company's IT support guys are the ones who should be working on it directly and/or escalating the issue within your company to recover the USB drive or otherwise get the data retrieved.
