Bitlocker protected but I never put this on!?

Help please my External hard drive is showing as bitlocker protected but I have never put this on, I don't even know what it is!
It's asking me for a password or a recovery key again I know nothing about these and didnt set them. I can't understand how this has happened? Can anyone advise me if I can take this anywhere to recover what is on it?

If your external hard drive is locked by bitlocker and you don't have the password or recovery key, then you are out of luck. We can't help you bypass these security measures (even if it was possible, which it is not).

Discussions on how to by-pass security measures are not allowed on Tom's Forums. We have no means to verify you are the rightful owner of the device in question.
