I've switched across to using my laptop full time now, which is great except
for games. Morrowind works at 1024*768 with minimum drawing distance but
its not as smooth as my old desktop + Radeon. No surprises there...

Anyway, my stats list, plus most of the options buttons are now all
preceeded by an 's', so my specialism is sCombat for example. When I level
up the stats are so long you can't see the number associated with them (I
don't have an example to hand) - the stat names are too long for the space
allocated to them.

All the mods, bar one I created, I've used before and that mod was done in
the same way as others which didn't generate any problems. I'm sure the
first few sessions I played didn't have this problem either, but I can't
point my finger at exactly when it started. I also installed Sacred and the
Plus pack around that time (I believe it was that which removed most of my
icon images from my taskbar) and Dungeon Siege.

Anyone else have this problem? There are no new drivers for my graphics
card as its just an Intel integrated thing on the motherboard.

Cheers,

Andy

Hmm. I just put a 19' Lcd monitor on my old desktop pc with a NVidia MX
400 gfx-card and morrowind runs fine with almost maximum drawing
distance with a desktop setting of 1280x1024.

Which raises the question in my mind: does MW take and use the desktop
settings or is it a setting in morrowind.ini?

For some reason, you are getting the variable names rather than their
values written to the display.

I can't imagine this being caused by a mod, even one that rewrote every
possible script.

It really sounds like your installation is corrupted in an unusual way,
and I'd reinstall rather than trying to fix it.

You're correct about the variable names; they were sAttributeStrength for
example. I've fixed it by recreating one of my mods. The only reason I can
think the problem happened is that I created a new class first time round
without loading the Morrowind data files. It still worked (I was able to
select the class) but using it then had unintended consequences. For
example Balmora to Caldera via the mages guild cost 11gp with that mod
installed, but Seyda Neen to Balmora by landstrider cost 450gp. It's a much
more reasonable 29gp now...

It has its own internal settings and ignores the desktop.

My desktop settings are 1280x1024 as I'm using an external monitor -
focusing hard on a 10" laptop display for 6 hours at a time would have had
me in the opticians faster than you can say coke-bottle lenses. The game
runs at 1024x768 with black bars top and bottom.

When I used the same monitor via the DVI connection on my Radeon it
stretched it to fit and my character looked tall and thin (and wrong). When
I used the VGA connection on the Radeon the monitor maintained aspect ratio
and it looked better (this is a hardware issue, nothing to do with
Morrowind). If there's a way to force Morrowind to use a different
resolution (other than the three options in the Video control menu) without
buggering up aspect ratio then I'd be interested to know. In Dungeon Siege
I can set any resolution, subject to strange effects if the monitor can't
handle it. I'm dying to get it on a display with 1920x1200.

Cheers,

Andy
