When I open add/remove, several of my programs are listed, then as I scroll
down there is a very long black-screen section, followed by the rest of my
programs.

The only stuff that is missing, possibly hidden by the black area, is all
the Windows updates.

OS: Windows XP Pro

Any help in fixing this would be appreciated.

Try this:

Add/Remove- part of program list is blank.

Go here:

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_abc.htm

Go down to here on that page:

"Add or Remove - White Space"
