Black bars on monitor.

I'm building a gaming pc. And I need a 1080p monitor.
If I play games in a lower resulotion will I get black bars on the side of the screen?

If you get an Nvidia card you can stretch it with control panel, so you can choose. You probably can with AMD aswell i dont know how though. But if you just lower resolution its not gonna be black bars, only if you play 4:3 or similar.
