Black crack makes half of monitor screen is black

Hello,
Monitor has a black crack appearing area on left side of screen with vertical and horizontal lines coming from it with black in the center of this. Top third of screen is normal. What is causing this and is it fixable?

That sounds like damage to the transistors, and possibly even leakage of the liquid crystals. I seriously doubt that would be fixable (or fixing it might cost more than a new monitor). I hope you can get some kind of warranty or insurance coverage for a new monitor.

Something hit the monitor and cracked the screen, replace it.
