Black Dot Inside Screen?

I'm not sure what this is but it's kind of annoying. It's like a black dot if you look at it dead on but if you look at it from the side it kind of looks like a 2-3 mm black line-thing. It doesn't really line up with the rest of the pixels either. I mean from the side it looks like it protrudes into the panel from the edge of the screen whereas the other pixels don't? I'm not really sure how to describe it and I'm not sure if these pictures will help any but I attached a couple. (excuse the quality; taken with a Blackberry Bold)

Something to note is it was never there before. I just turned it on last month cause my old monitor died and it had this on it. It was packed up in the original box with wrapping and everything for about 5 months.

Tried new cables, new GPU (technically an old one but meh) and even hooked up my PS3 to it and it's there on everything so it's definitely something with the monitor itself.

Is a dust speck inside between the panel and screen? Not sure how considering it was packed up..... I don't think it's a dead pixel due to reasons above. Any suggestions?

Oh, it's an HP Pavilion 20bw if that matters.

Dead insect or something inside the display panel. I've had the same happen once.

If you want to risk it, you can try pulling apart the display panel, but be ridiculously careful - those flexible PCB cables can tear off the glass easily.

Not sure if it would be covered by warranty.

No wonder it's been bugging me. Ha!

Ahem....

Will it eventually dry up and fall apart (disintegrate) if I just leave it there because I really don't want to risk breaking my monitor. Not to mention I don't even have most of the tools required for it anyway. I mean if it actually is a bug. My guess would be a gnat cause I've seen a few of them taunting me in front of my monitor and TV.

No it won't. My little guy, now squished and dead, is still there and visible months later.

Oh well. I guess I'll have to live with it. Or just buy a new one if it's not terribly cheap to get it fixed. It's only $99 brand new...

Thanks for the help guys ^^

I've only ever replaced one laptop screen in my life and I needed a heat gun to melt the glue a bit to get the glass off and it was hell. I'm not even going to attempt it on this. Warranty doesn't cover this apparently.

Has anybody ever tried the suction cup method I keep hearing about? How safe is it and does it actually work?

No, he was dead to begin with apparently. When I unpacked it and hooked it up it was there and it hasn't moved at all since. I just tried tapping the glass a bit above and to the sides of it to see if it would move. Notta. Not entirely sure what to do with it.

I would have sent it back.

Yeah, it's not new. It is less than a year old but HP said this particular problem isn't covered under warranty. And it'll cost me about $200 to send it to get fixed. Does anybody here know much about that suction cup method? I've heard that taking a suction cup and very lightly pulling up the glass can allow you to shake the bug down behind the bezel?

Oh, I'm a she ^^
