Edit: Finally found a thread with a similar situation. They found that there was no more freezing after the Catalyst Control Center was uninstalled. Is this safe to do?
Here's what's going on:
The day after Black Ops 2 came out, my system started having hard crashing issues. There was no trigger that I could find... Sometimes it would crash after 2 minutes of playing online, sometimes I could go well over an hour. There's nothing specifically that I can find that causes it. I haven't noticed it in any other games either... I've played full games of League of Legends without having any issues. I'm pretty sure I played some Assassin's Creed 3 and Hitman: Absolution without issue. I faintly recall having it happen in Hitman: Absolution once, but that's a slight possibility. I just tried updating my graphics drivers, to no avail.
Essentially, what happens is a total system lockdown. Video freezes, keyboard+mouse stop working, and all audio (from all applications, not just CoD) immediately stop (no audio stuttering). I have to hold the power button to do a hard reboot just to get my system working again. This is getting extremely frustrating, as every time it happens (frequently) I lose both my experience from that match as well as get marked a loss. I opened a support ticket to no avail so far. I figured I would try here before trying the Call of Duty forums as it seems like getting help there is a bit farfetched. I should also mention that this isn't a heat issue: the case doesn't even feel remotely hot.
Oh, and here's system info:
