Hello Forum Users!

My HDD spikes to 100% whenever I play black ops 3, when it loads into a map my HDD goes to 99/100% usage. I've done all the other fixes for it being on your Desktop when idleing but i can't figure out what causes it when I'm running blackops 3.. I'm using a 2tb HDD (ST2000DM001-1ER164)

To add:
CPU: i3-4160
GPU: RX 470
RAM: 8GB 1600mhz

Can run BF4 with no problem, nor does any other game cause this problem.

Thanks for any help in advance!

but i suppose BF4 would be heavier on the hdd and that doesn't cause any problems

All games are different. This isn't a problem. If you were doing nothing at all and your HDD sat at 100% usage that would be a problem.

Hey there, @DutchT!

I'd suggest you check how reinstalling the game will affect the HDD usage. It might also be a good idea to check Task Manager/Resource monitor to make sure there is no other process causing the 100 % usage as well. Scanning your system for malware might also be a good idea.
I hope the reinstalling helps, though. Sometimes a software might not get properly installed which would cause these spikes in the hardware.
Keeping an eye on the HDD using the manufacturer's brand-specific diagnostic tool is definitely a good way to monitor its health and SMART data. Moreover, always make sure you back up your important files somewhere else as well. Having at least two copies of it on different storage locations (on-site & off-site) will surely avoid the headaches of data loss.

Keep us posted with the troubleshooting & good luck! :)

Hey! Thanks for your response,

What might be a good thing to add (Which I forgot) is that it only recently happened after I replaced my gtx 750 with my RX 470.. But I don't know how that would cause the HDD to be spiking at 100% usage..

Well, my GPU drives are up-to-date, BO3 reinstalled still happens. I've heard that apparently this is some AMD related problem but i have no idea how to fix this. Don't know what causes because in task manager it randomly selects applications to give huge HDD load and it switches everytime..

Hey there again, @DutchT!

I remember there was something about this, yes! I believe you should check AMD official website for support. There were some additional beta driver versions that optimized the quality & performance of some games. Give it a try, I hope it works.
However, make sure you keep track of the HDD usage with other software apps as well. It might also be a good idea to run some anti-virus/malware scans to make sure there's nothing infected on your system.

Best of luck!
