My computer goes to a black screen after the bios screen popped up and goes away. The display shows an "_" for a second then the screen goes completely black.

My build
MoBo: 970a Sli Krait Edition
GPU: Asus r9 380x
CPU: AMD FX-6300

This randomly became a problem one day

Yes, I can go into my Bios if I wanted to. GPU is also seated in properly (or else i wouldn't be able to see bios, correct? Im not great with computers)

No. You can boot a PC (to BIOS) without a GPU.

Make sure your graphics card is firmly seated in your motherboard and you hear the *click* and the pin or clip is securing your card in place. Also make sure all of you GPU power is connected.

No luck, I made sure it was all of the way in. Even unplugged everything but the HDMI and Power.

I have one 120GB SSD (with os) and one 1TB HD. I believe it's in the right order while looking at it in the bios, although I have no idea why it would change when I never touched it.

If you just built the PC, your computer doesn't know the order, unless you plugged the SATA cables in perfect order.
Go into BIOS and check your BOOT priority. It's usually one of the first things you see in a BIOS menu. Don't forget to save and hope this is it.

I have had this computer for about 9 months and all was working well. It recognizes my SSD as my 1st option as well.

Look in your motherboard manual on how-to reset you motherboard. There is typically a button somewhere on your motherboard. If there isn't you can pop out the little battery after unplugging your power supply.

Resetting your MOBO is kinda a shot in the dark, but without knowing anymore details it's hard to help you.

I'm not sure how fast your screen goes black...Immediately - or if it takes a few seconds; but if you could get into safe mode, that would be ideal. Try starting up your PC and hammer on that F8 key or Shift + F8, then try and enter safe mode.

Sorry for taking so long, I pulled out the battery to my MoBo and it still does not work. The screen goes dark AFTER the option of pressing Delete for Bios and F11 for Boot set up. Shift + F8 and F8 do not do anything on my computer as far as i can tell.

All good. Hopefully the battery is back in. lol. There's always the possibility that you just got a bad gpu. It may have went bad somewhere along the lines. Do you have another gpu that you can swap out and try booting up with?

Unfortunately, no. I guess it's time to dish out money to the local repair shop!

You should be fine. The battery just stores your bios settings.
