Black screen after installing RX 480

So my new Sapphire NITRO+ RX 480 4G arrived to replace my ancient Asus GTX 560. I started by uninstalling all NVIDIA drivers, powering off my computer, unplugging the power and swapping the graphics cards. When I turn on the computer I then get a black screen with the DVI-D port plugged into the GFX card. I have tried disabling Intel HD graphics in device manager and also going into my BIOS and selecting PCIE as my main display.

Can anyone please help me 🙁

These are my PC specs:
- Intel Core i5 3450 Gen3 Ivy Bridge 3.1GHz 6MB Cache LGA 1155
- GIGABYTE GA-Z77-D3H LGA 1155 Intel Z77 ATX Intel Motherboard
- Kingston HyperX 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600
- Corsair TX650M
- Seagate Barracuda 500GB ST500DM002 7200.12 SATA3 NCQ 16MB 7200RPM Hard Drive OEM

Have you double checked with the other PCI slot? (Eliminating a PCI slot issue.) Have you access to another PC to install the graphics card? (Eliminating faulty card.)

With the graphics card installed and connected to the monitor, were you able to see the BIOS screen? (Eliminating driver issue.) If the black screen appears after BIOS and during Windows boot up, it suggests a driver issue.

If you can, try booting up in safe mode, open Device Manager and see if the RX 480 is recognised under Display adapter. (If nothing is there, click 'View' and check/tick 'Show hidden devices' to see if it comes up.) If it isn't recognised be prepared for a faulty card and having to RMA it.

If you can boot into Windows with the RX 480 installed, I would suggest (if you haven't) a clean install of drivers.

there could be number of reason for that exclude one by one
1. first reseat RAM
2. check power supply
3. check your new graphic card. see if it works in another PC if you have one
4. this is most rare cause- some graphics cards have issues with like legacy or UEFI bios. well as i see your motherboard have UEFI bios, try disabling secure boot in your bios setting, see if it works

I have not tried with the other PCI slot but the slot should be fine because my old graphics card works with it. I have just tried installing the card into my brothers PC and it was working.

With the graphics card installed and connected to the monitor I do not reach the BIOS screen. The screen stays black the whole time.

If i boot in safe mode I just have a black screen regardless of whether my monitor is plugged into my MOBO or graphics card :/

I feel like the card is fine since it works on my brothers computer...I am really stumped

It does sound like the card is fine (otherwise it wouldn't work on your brother's PC). Perhaps a bit of compressed air to clear any potential dust from the slot? (You never know...) The other PCI slot is still worth a try.

Go with the other suggestions sancubes mentioned as well. Some cards have a switch which is related to the mode I believe.

If there's still no joy, then this link is very comprehensive and should resolve most problems.

Ok after changing to legacy on my BIOS as sancubes mentioned I now have a display and can load onto my home screen! However new problem. My computer is not recognising that I have a new graphics card.... Under Display adapters in device manager it says "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter", now what =/

It just means Windows knows there's a new piece of hardware but doesn't know what it is precisely. So it's time to install drivers for the card and everything should be fine.
