Hello, i'm having some problems with my coputer.
I was running an i3 530 on a P7P55 LX motherboard and decided to upgrade to xeon x3440. Now the cpu isn't on the official supported list but i've seen plenty of people running the same setup, it's the same socket and it should work just fine with p55 setup.
What i did: turned off the pc, removed the cables of fan and the cpu power, took out the fan and cleaned it from the old thermalbpaste, got the old cpu out, installed the new one correctly (fits exactly) got some thermal paste on it, a tiny rice bit, installed the fan and connected all the plugs.
I pushed power and all i got was black screen(fans speening).
I pushed the mem reset butten which did nothing and took out the little battery (cmos battery?) which also did nothing.
Please help!

The stock cooler included with the i3 530 might be too weak for a 4 core 8 thread CPU. If your old CPU cooler didn't have a copper slug in it, then it probably isn't going to do well with the Xeon. You may have to look at an aftermarket CPU cooler to get your temps down.
OKay, so the CPU will work with your mobo. But first you have to make sure you have an up to date bios. You can download and update it by visiting the manufacturers website and following the instructions. You may need to re-insert the old CPU, then do the update. Then go through the new CPU installation again. Thermal paste, reseat cooler etc.

You might be having some issues with memory compatibility. You could try pressing the MemOK button and the board will try to get it bootable by trying different speeds and timings. Could also be you have a dead CPU or a CPU with a messed up memory controller. What RAM do you have? The LGA 1156 platform natively ran DDR3-1333 memory with anything faster being considered an overclock.

I have 2x4(1600mhz) ram installed, they are different modules but worked perfectly with the i3 530. I used to run them at the 1670 speed (they are 1600) i pushed mem ok button multiple times but that sadly seems to be doing nothing

Only other thing I can suggest is trying to reseat the RAM just in case you knocked them loose when installing the new CPU. If that doesn't work, then you probably either have a dead CPU, or your particular board is not compatible with that Xeon.

Only problem now is that temperatures seem pretty high near 80 with a slight load, idles at 60. I used the old intel stock cooler but with stock speeds, why is it getting so high temps?
