Black screen after sleep mode

I recently built a custom desktop and just about everything work perfectly. However, whenever I put the computer to sleep, about 1/5 times it will stay on a black screen and be completely unresponsive when I try to wake it up. Sometimes, one of the fans (I can't tell which one it is) will start spinning extremely loud while staying on said black screen. I have tried just about everything; update drivers, re-establish connections, power settings, monitor settings, etc... HELP
