Black screen after windows install

I just finished upgrading my computer. Got a new motherboard/ram/cpu, my gpu and hdd/ssd remain the same.
Connected the ssd because I want windows to boot off that and left the hdd out.
Did a delete then a format on the ssd before I tried to reinstall windows on it. Things were going fine with the installation until the restart. After the restart I get a black screen and nothing happens, and other times I get the screen asking to choose an operating system to start. Here I see 2 options of Windows 7s. I have clicked on both and both lead to a black screen. Sometimes I get the message that hardware changes were made and that I would need to insert a windows cd to repair or do a fresh install (which I have already done).
A few times after the windows installation restart I get a screen that says 'A disk read error occurred press ctrl+alt+del to restart'.
I have no idea what to do anymore, I have rechecked my wires and connections. If anyone knows what the problem is, please help. Thank you

If it's asking you which Windows to start you did not do a format on the drive you installed Windows on or you did something else to make it think there is another Windows installed, say plugging in the other drive and not checking the boot order.
Remove all the hard drives drives except the SSD in the lowest SATA port. Boot off the Windows disk. Select advanced disk options when you get to that part, delete all partitions (that will wipe the disk data fully), select the single drive that will be left showing and start the setup.

I just took out the SSD and plugged it into my other computer to do a cmd format to ntfs on the drive. Just plugged it back on the original computer and now its working properly and finished installing windows fully. Thanks
