Question Black screen - blinking curstor

Hi,

We had a cellphone that was drowned in water. After a night of letting it dry out, my daughter decided to hook it up to her PC to try to save her pictures.

The PC didn't boot up and now she only gets a black screen with a blinking cursor on the screen.

Probably the USB port shorted the motherboard ?

Any tips on how we can try to fix this ?

Liquids are clever but they can't run down the inside of a USB/Micro USB cable. If the PC is running any Windows up to 7, try Safe Mode with Command Prompt and at the prompt, write
chkdsk c: /r
then hit the Enter key.

That should fix any file problems and it may sort the PC out. For Windows 10, keep trying to start it up and when it gets fed up with that, it will offer StartUp Repair options. Go down the same road as before when it shows the Command line choice.


Tip for future readers. If your phone or laptop ever gets drowned, cover it with uncooked rice. Rice can absorb far more liquid than any kitchen paper can manage.
