Black screen blinking underscore

built my own computer with windows 7 and was working up until this morning
i started it and it went to a black screen saying
"Intel UNDI, PXE-2.1 (build 003)
Copyright (c) 1997-2000 Intel Corporation"

bunch more stuff that seems irrelevant and then..

"PXE-E61: Media not found, check cable

PXE-M0F: exiting PXE ROM."

I read that you should remove some network boot from the boot options and after that now i ONLY get the blinking underscore after the BIOS screen

tried inserting the windows 7 CD in the drive to do a windows repair but it won't boot from it, it goes straight to the blinking underscore

It sounds like either your OS install has been hosed or possibly your HDD has died.

Go back into the BIOS and make sure to set the CD drive before the HDD in the boot order, and then you should be able to boot off the Windows 7 DVD. From there you can try fixing Windows, and if that doesn't work, you may have to consider a new HDD.

What might have caused the HDD to have died? The BIOS boot sequence goes DVD drive then hard drive but it won't do anything with or without the cd in the drive.
