hello,

my computer screen went 'black' and yet the monitor is on. I checked the light that shows whether my HDD is on/off, and it is currently off. Just built this computer 3 months ago in July.

current specs:

Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor

CPU Cooler
Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus 76.8 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler

Motherboard
MSI Z97M-G43 Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard

Memory
Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory

Hard drive
seagate Barracuda ST1000DM003 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive
Video Card
Sapphire Radeon R9 290X 4GB Tr-X OC Video Card

Case
Corsair C70 Military Green (Green) ATX Mid Tower Case

Power Supply
EVGA SuperNOVA NEX 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply

I can go to BIOS but i don't know what to check in there. I also see the mobo logo as well.

I also checked if the hard drive was set to sleep, I set it to zero already when the first time this started. I also checked if the keyboard and mouse in the device manager had the option to be able to wake the computer, and both boxes were checked.

I also did a chkdsk and cystal disk check, here's the screenshot:

It has been happening quite frequently now, almost at least once a week since it started. The first time it did, i thought it was a fluke and set it aside, but now, it has happened several times; so there is cause for concern. Right now, when the screen goes 'black' and the monitor is still running, I just do a hard boot reset....

I've also attached a screenshot of the latest windows event viewer and highlighted a critical error. could this be the issue?

ok. i'll check this tomorrow as it is already late night here. thank you. I will update you asap.

my friend also mentioned that ". I would check gpu and make sure you are using the right port for single monitor". Is this something I also need to look into??
