Hello Tom's Hardware community.
I recently built a new high end desktop PC (May). Since I first built it, I have had problems with my graphics card drivers (Omega), it seems. I contacted AMD directly and they provided me with the beta driver that seemed to work for a while. My big problem is that after I updated to 15.7.1 or 15.8, my PC keeps crashing to black screen, requiring a restart from the restart button. I tested many drivers and ended up with the drivers that came with the graphics card (13.251). ?bout a week ago i decided to reinstall Windows 8.1 so i completely formatted my SSD.
After the new install I used the motherboard DVD to install the drivers and utilities and some extra utilities or updates from ASUS website, mainly because I was prompted to it (AI suite,Rapid storage etc), and with the graphics card accordingly. My PC kept crashing with the addition of having a Blue Screen on startup with the error (PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA IO64.sys). I contacted both AMD and ASUS with my specs and problem requesting a solution.
ASUS replied first and suggested that I updated my BIOS to 2406, download the chipset drivers and then install the VGA drivers. I did all of that and the situation got even worse. My PC crashed within the first minutes of use, regardless of the driver version. I then rolled back to my restore point (fresh install with 13.251 drivers). AMD then replied and suggested that I remove the software completely before I try to install my new drivers. I tried that in Programs and software and after I unistalled Catalyst and restarted my PC I got a very heavily pixelated and unusable screen, able to make something out from my desktop, but surely not able to install new drivers. I then rolled back to my restore point again. To conclude, my current problem is the black screen crash, though less intense than later drivers, my inability to update my graphics drivers, and the Blue screen on startup. The problem seems to be much worse the first time I power up the PC in the morning and it requires 5-7 restarts with combination of blue and black screen. Thank you in advance and I am sorry for the long post
