Hi all! This is the 1st time I post here and I am hoping of some sort of clearance from you guys related to an issues I have.

I have the standard black screen + fans to 100% error but with a twist... Everything seems to run normally (even under load during a benchmark) when I plug the card onto the second PCIE slot which is x8 and not a x16.
This error happens randomly but mostly under load.

Specs:
MB: Asus ROG Ranger VII
PSU: CoolerMaster 750V Vanguard series
GPU: Gygabyte 1080 extreme edition
CPU: 4790k Intel
RAM: 16gb HyperX beast (2400mhz i think)

Any suggestions? Could provide more info if needed.

interesting, this is happening to me right now but totally different set up. I have a ryzen 2400G with igpu, a strong psu and asus mobo. I think the only thing common between us is if you are using Win10

Win10 since day one but the thing is I never encountered Windows10 being the culprit among the hundreds of similar posts here on TH.

I had a similar problem and after trying the obvious (drivers, reseating, etc) I solved it by taking my tower to the gas station and blowing out the dust from the PSU and using different plugs for the GPUs power connectors (my PSU is modular). After this it was fine!!

Could be that it demands less power in the x8 slot so you dont get the problem there

I honestly believe it was shorting out due to dust and recommend anyone with this problem start by cleaning their psu with high pressure air.

my build is brand new though, less than a month old with new PSU. I wouldn't rule out the issue yet, because mine happened again last night after 2 weeks from the initial occurrence.
