Hi guys!

I have a problem with my graphic card on Acer 7730g with Geforce 9600m GT.
It worked OK for a while, even when I Played games or watched videos. Bud suddenly today when I was just reading mail, a black screen appears. I restarted my laptop. It booted normally, but after one minute in windows, again black screen. I restarted PC a few more times, the same problem with black screen about minute after windows booted and after next restart, there was black screen immediately after I pressed startup button. I leave laptom for half an hour and after that I again started laptom. It worked normally. In windows I immediately started to backup files on my computer on flashdisk. It lasted about 1.5hour. All taht time, graphic card worked normally. After that I just wanted to copy more files and suddenly black screen. After that I get black screen a few second after pressing startup button (I can see only few second of starting system) or immediately after pressing startup button. It seems that when I leave laptop untouched for a while, I can see at least a few second of starting system, after reset I dont see anything from the beginning. SO I guess, taht leaving laptop untouched for a while somehow regenerates graphic card, but not enough..

I tried to clean graphic card, I tried to reinsert it. I know that graphic card isnt hot when black screen appears.

Thank you for any advices!!

To me this sound like your computer is overheating. This has happened to me a few years ago with a laptop, and I had the exact thing happen to me. Try running your computer with the case open, and watch for any fans that aren't spinning.

Also, if this is an issue of overheating, I would guess your processor/ processor fan is the issue. If you are using the stock fan, replace it with an aftermarket cooler. Also try re-applying the heat sink paste.

Good luck.

Thanks for answer! To me it also sounds like overheating, but is that possible? In past I played video games and without problem graphic card had temperature 90°C and was really hot on touch. Now when screen turns black, temperature is about 50°C and on touch it is cool. I have already removed case and I have external fans directed on graphic card. It is true, that a few days ago, I have removed heat sink paste. I thought I dont need it when I have those external fans. Is it possible that this cause my problems?

Definitely. You should NEVER remove the heat sink paste. It's the one thing redirecting heat away from the major components. I assume you meant the heat sink paste from the CPU, in that case you most likely fried that, and that could be why it isn't heating up. Most intel CPUs also have a limit where they turn off after 60 degrees C. Same goes for graphics cards, which could be your problem.

To fix this, re-apply heat sink paste, and if that doesn't work you probably need to order new parts.

I have reapllied paste. I guess the problem slightly improved (maybe it is false). I managed to get a few times to windows (but for less than one minute - after that black screen again). All temperatures were low. Temperature of graphic card was 49°C just a few seconds before screen went black. Any more suggestions? Should I try to bake my graphic card in oven?

Anyway, thank you very much for your help. i appretiate it :)

Yeah, sadly it seems you will need some new parts to get that working again. Your graphics card and motherboard probably still work, but the CPU probably needs o be replaced at the least.
