Since this morning I'm getting random freezes after a couple of minutes of gameplay. It started with Battlefield 3, which made my screen turn black and I had to push the reset button since CTRL+ALT+DEL didn't work anymore. I also noticed that the power led on my monitor was blinking, which indicates that it doesn't get signal.

Anyway, I restarted the computer, put everything at stock settings (no overclock) and tried again. It happened a couple of more times in Battlefield 3, so in anger I blamed the game and uninstalled it. Then I went on to play Tomb Raider, same thing happened. I ran Aida64 for 30 minutes, Furmark for a short while and all without problems. It's just within games that it shuts down between like 10 seconds and 2 minutes after starting. I opened up the case, reseated my graphics card, switched places of my two memory sticks and hoped for the best. Same thing is happening.

Also, I didn't install anything yesterday that could have caused it. I even played games yesterday for the whole evening. The only thing I did yesterday was link and online Microsoft account to my Windows 8 account, so I had to log in to that account every time I turned my computer on. I just reversed this....

Doing that now. And if this doesn't work, are there some other steps I can take to troubleshoot this issue that's causing the random black screens and 9 out of 10 times force me to reset the computer?

If the driver doesn't work...
In my experience this is usually due to a driver or overclock. Check temperatures etc. Make sure nothing is overheating. If not then unless you have another card you can use to test your system, to rule out the rest of the pc, I'd ruggest taking the graphics card back and let them check it.

I reinstalled all the Nvidia drivers, used the one from the disc (which was the version you said I believe), then updated them back to 331.65 and that seems to have fixed the issue. It's the same version I was having trouble with, so perhaps corrupted drivers? What could have caused the issue and what can you do to prevent it? Using the same version now without problems that was originally causing the problem this morning.
