Black Screen + GPU Issues

Hello,

Yesterday I was playing GTA V, and I did nothing I wouldn't do any other day. Randomly, my PC black screened. I thought all would be fine, that wasn't too weird, but when I restarted, I got a black screen. Restarted again, got into my PC for 5 minutes, black screen. Afterwards, I got a boot loop. I went into BIOS and went to factory default settings. This worked for about 20 minutes, then it black screened when opening YouTube. I decided to reinstall Windows, keeping personal files. Now, the PC works, but when I try to install Graphics Drivers, the PC black screens. On top of this, when I go to device manager, my GPU shows up as Microsoft Basic Display Adapter, and when trying to update, it says "Windows found drivers for your device but encountered an error when attempting to install them." Showing my GPU, a GTX 1080, and "The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable." I am running out of ideas, besides reinstalling Windows 10 again, without keeping personal files.

Specs:

GPU: NVIDIA GTX 1080 (Made by ZOTAC)
CPU: Intel i7-7700k
MOBO: ASUS TUF Z270 Mark 1 LGA1151 DDR4 DP HDMI M.2 USB 3.1 Z270 ATX Motherboard
PSU: EVGA 80PLUS 600W ATX 12V/EPS 12V Power Supply

If you need any more information, let me know. I have had the PC for roughly only 2 months.

Please help!

I fixed it! It took a long time to get it working but what I did was reseat my GPU, reinstall Windows and wipe everything, and cleaned out the GPU. I'm not sure which one of these fixed it, but it works now. I had some issues with Windows and it wouldn't boot correctly, but I fixed it by using my installation disc. Couldn't be happier.

Just tried reinstalling the drivers using the Custom option to perform a clean install, got this message:

NVIDIA Installer failed

PhysX System Software 9.17.0329 Not Installed

3D Vision Controller Driver 369.04 Not Installed

HD Audio Driver 1.3.34.27 Not Installed

Graphics Driver 382.53 Failed

NVIDIA GeForce Experience 3.6.0.74 Not Installed

3D Vision Driver 382.53 Not Installed

I also tried using DDU before and doing this, and got the black screen doing it via NVIDIA GeForce Experience, this time through the other installer my PC didn't crash and I got the latest Windows updates. Should I try a complete reinstall of Windows? Or maybe try reseating?

I doubt reinstall will work if you did it once already. It sounds like it reverted to the integrated graphics which allow you to see basic stuff but won't be capable enough for anything heavy (high res video or gaming) and your gpu just isn't working for whatever reason. Like it was suggested, I'd contact both ZOTAC and NVidia and see what can be done. If it's a hardware issue, you'll have to deal with zotac and their warranites. If it's something drivers related that can be solved on your end, nvidia will likely know.
