Black Screen of Nothingness

So today I turned on my laptop and everything was fine. I was at my lock screen and everything was fine. But when I logged in I saw everything was black. All I could see was my mouse pointer. I started task manager and it loaded up fine but everything behind it was black. I cant do anything. Can someone tell me what to do. The screen is not broken because it works but everything is BLACK! Someone Please help me. I have windows 8.1

Firstly, try to reboot it. It's possible something's gone fullscreen and crashed, or similar.

If that doesn't work, come back and we'll have a better look.

I already tried that it didn't work.

try to open some metro apps.
go to app history in task manager, then right click any app and select "Switch to".
if those apps doesn't open up then try logging in in safe mode.

In task manager I got into my files. I can open up anything like steam or anything else but everything is still black behind it. So I went into the recovery folder and am trying to restore my computer to a different date. Looking t it I see everything started to happen when I updated Java. So should I recover to the date when I updated java or restore even farther back to the eleventh. I don't know what info I will loose.

I don't think updating java will cause any display problems.
since you have a back up available, its recommended to restore your system. (This is the best option)

does your cursor freezes, if it does then its an hdd problem.

I restored to the point of the java update and it was still black so right now I'm restoring farther back and its still in the process I hope it works.

I thought of restoring the system but, it should be ones last option. there are lot of other problems and solutions.

I don't waste my hdd space taking back ups. I only have the initial back up taken by my laptop manufacturer. For the systems no BACKUPS.
