Black screen on laptop

my screen on my Lenovo laptop froze up. i turned it off then back on, now it gives me a.black screen

Fully black screen, as in nothing on it at all? Aside from blank screen does it seem like it turns on OK, status lights go on then go away, battery charge light is OK? Try with an external screen, you may need to use the function keys to send signal to it.
